Myself

My name is David Shepherd, I am 41 years old and am a father of 3 sons. I am a web designer and applications developer as well as a graphics designer/animator. I have worked a variety of different jobs including some that Mike Rowe would find interesting. I enjoy a wide variety of music, movies and books. I am a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and within it a member of the Federated Clans of House Rolling Thunder. I have seen many things in my life some of which could, and would disturb some people. Once upon a time I was a firefighter, a warehouse worker, a swamp drainer, a pizza delivery guy, a mainframe systems operator, a scaffolding rigger, Santa Clause, a Corsair of Asgard, and Wolverine. These were not necessarily in chronological order, order of preference, or even jobs that I've had.

I consider myself to be extremely lucky. When I was a kid, I wanted to be either a firefighter or an astronaut. Well as it turns out the astronaut thing is out of reach, but working for NASA is as close as many people could hope. I started working at the Johnson Space Center for San Jacinto College / Aerospace Academy in early January of 2010. So even though I wont be an astronaut, I am very proud to be able to work with the amazing people at JSC and I am very thankful for the opportunity

I really did enjoy being a firefighter, even though it was at times hot, dirty, nasty, wet work which occasionally involved spiders (I can't stand spiders!). I didn't really enjoy draining swampland, that was just plain hot, dirty, nasty, wet work without any reward or satisfaction (Thankfully however it didnt include spiders... only a few water moccasins). Being a firefighter gave me tired and aching muscles, soot and ash in places that I never expected to have to clean soot and ash from, and rewarded me with self confidence that I had lost somewhere in my life.

As for being Thunder or a Corsair, if you know what they are, I dont need to say anything else. If you do need to ask, well, I hope you have a bit of time.

I enjoy a good beer occasionally, sometimes I even enjoy a bad one. That however usually depends on the company and location. I love going to the movies and an occasional hockey game. The former depends on who I go with, and if they are into discussing the film afterward. The latter, well, hockey is life. There is nothing like making the save, with the exception of making the goal.
